The BGFC Ladies Guild was formed in July of
2005 when Mary Lee-Butte had a “hair dryer” moment and she
decided to form a group of ladies to help with the fundraising
for the chaplaincy so that Chaplain Vincent Sabol could concentrate on the work at hand in helping
the farm workers and not worrying about doing fundraising events.
In July, 2007, the Board of Directors of Blue Grass Farms Chaplaincy unanimously voted to appoint Mary Lee-Butte as the Executive Director of BGFC. Mary has been involved as a board member for three years, served as founder and director of the Ladies Guild, and chairs their annual fundraiser, Nags, Bags and Rags.
A hands-on person, Mary is involved in the day to day management of BGFC as well as visiting farms, families in crisis, and hospital calls. She will continue to operate the Ladies Guild, an integral part of the chaplaincy. She replaces Nancy Sabol who recently moved to Somerset.
The Guild has been a big success and we at the Chaplaincy
thank Mary Lee for her hard work and her great “vison” to help
the farm workers here in Central Kentucky. Membership for the
Guild is $35.00 for non-active members and $25.00 for active
members. You can decide how “involved” you want to be and we
would love to have you join and bring your special talents
and gifts to this ministry.
The Guild meets once a month to discuss the upcoming events
planned. The Guild is responsible for the summer festival and
Christmas party for the farm workers and their families, and
the annual fundraiser for the chaplaincy.
The Guild Newsletter
Mary Lee keeps the
ladies informed by sending out a monthly newsletter which
has plenty of information on it as to what the group is up
to.The
Guild newsletter is now offering advertising space in its
monthly issues at very reasonable prices. The newsletter
reaches
about 400 homes and offices in the Thoroughbred community.
“Nags, Bags & Rags”
NAGS, BAGS
AND RAGS will be held on Monday, October 6,
2008, at the newly remodeled Campbell House
Crown Plaza. It was decided to return a luncheon
format since so many evening events are held
during the October race meet. We had a great
turnout last year, but missed many of our great
friends who had evening conflicts.
Without a doubt, this year will be bigger and
better than ever!
Comedienne Etta Mae will be
our special guest as she brings her down-home
comedy routine to Nags! Also new this year will
be vendor booths for fashions, home, farm, office
and garden—something for everyone. Of course,
you can expect to see some new faces on the
runway along with several favorites from the past!
