PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
The presence and availability of a chaplain
on the farms provides the trust and security for individual
men and women to share openly their struggles in their personal
life. The chaplain is a mediator between the management and
the worker and he helps improve communication and relationships
between them.
A Farm Chaplain will:
Regularly have individual
need assessments done to workers on his first visit to
the farm. The purpose of this
is to identify the main issues of concern and to help
place the worker into a plan of action which may be one of
these
three levels:
- Translating for them or their managers, interceding
with health issues, providing onsite ESL or Literacy
classes, or to send them for classes and services.
- Helping them with legal matters, taking them for their
consular matricula to diminish crime and to bring financial
improvement, traffic court and DUI's, and visits to correctional
facilities and hospitals.
- Other areas such as a family crisis, funerals, grief
conseling, domestic violence, child abuse, substance abuse,
and teen problems.
These are accomplished through
visitation to hospitals or home visits to the sick
and injured at the
farm.
Responding to emergencies and being able to assess
the situation with appropriate skills and to refer to the
proper authorities for a quick and safe result.
Perform marriages,
officiate at funerals and memorial services and to give invocations
at various events.
Act as a liaison between farm workers,
farm managers and related racing organizations and their
assistance programs to help as needed.
Provide benevolence in
times of critical need through clothing, food and health
care items.

facilities and activities, social events and special
holiday celebrations.
